Specialist Services At Cherry Pie we pride ourselves on making an environment that is fun and creative whilst maintaining the highest standards in everything we do. We are focused on the individual customer and to working with their own particular musical tastes and goals, whether they're a child just starting lessons for fun, or a seasoned pro recording a full album. Our teachers are among the best around and we have a higher standard for our staff than almost any other similar school. Our website offers comprehensive information about our business and a feedback section so you can let us know what you think of us. We also offer a free introductory lesson and recording studio consultations, so don't just take our word for how good we are, come and find out for yourself!
If you're an absolute beginner as most adults are when they first come for lessons with us, we have courses and teaching methods designed specifically with adults in mind and our teachers are all experienced in teaching adults as well as children so you'll find someone who is on your level and understands your own musical tastes and goals.
Often people come to us wanting to take up again an instrument they learnt as a child but had to stop when the pressures of job, family and so on took over. With the right tuition you'll be surprised how quickly it'll all come back to you. The enjoyment of starting the instrument you love again is immense and you'll find yourself wondering why you didn't get back into it sooner.
Some of our adults are already very advanced and playing semi-professionally in bands, ensembles and so on. Our teachers have the real-world experience to help you achieve your performance and recording goals and give you tips and advice that only years of performing experience can offer. We can also help you form or join a band or group, find gigs for yourself, and gain live and ensemble experience through our groups, jam nights and concerts.
At our school we have lessons right up to 9.30pm on weekdays and all day at weekends so you can fit your lessons in around the demands of work and family. If your schedule is hectic you can just book your lessons as you go, arranging them one at a time around whatever else you happen to be doing.
All our Cherry Pie teachers are down-to-earth and we have a laid-back and welcoming atmosphere so you'll feel good and be raring to go as soon as you come in the door. You can book a free introductory lesson with no obligation to carry on, so come and find out for yourself!
At Cherry Pie we are extremely proud of our top-class teaching staff. We have a team of around 30 teachers at our schools and a wider team of teachers for visiting and peripatetic work. All our teachers are among the best in their fields and we encourage a strong and positive team spirit, making Cherry Pie a fun and inspiring environment in which to learn.
Our teachers come from a diverse range of musical backgrounds and all have various specialisms whether classical, jazz, rock/metal, pop, musical theatre and so on, as well as being excellent all-round musicians. Although we obviously have set standards in terms of qualifications and experience, we value "real world" experience very highly and nearly all of our teachers are or have been professional performers or session musicians. Just as important as musical ability, we also ensure our teachers are outgoing, friendly people with a warm and enthusiastic teaching manner.
Before working at Cherry Pie our teachers go through a rigorous assessment which addresses every part of their being an excellent music teacher. On the musical side we audition not only technical and artistic ability but also the wider skills of sight reading and improvisaion and a written music theory exam. We assess teaching skills through interview, role play and an observed lesson and use competency-based interviewing to ensure we only take teachers who are reliable, mature and organised, and whos hearts are truly in music and teaching. We know our standards are by far the highest because teachers from other music schools and tuition services frequently fail our interview.
All our teachers are fully CRB checked to work alone with children as required by law. In addition to this we also test our teachers awareness of child protection at their interview to ensure they have a common sense understanding of correct procedure and practice when working with children, then train them all to a common standard when they start working with us.
Trade Bodies / Associations We are registered with all the major music exam boards including ABRSM, Trinity and Rockschool. We won the SEEBOARD Local Start-up Business of the Year in 2003. Our staff are all individually members of various professional bodies.
